We are officially one day from the start of our great Canadian summer farming adventure! We had a busy few weeks before leaving Austin in packing, cleaning, working, volunteering, and moving. It was a whirlwind of activity! We are grateful for all of the fun and experiences we had in Texas. We would do it again in a heartbeat. It was so nice to be down south enjoying the lovely winter weather instead of up here where they seriously had so much SNOW!!!! We loved all of the sight-seeing of the surrounding areas we were able to do which included Bastrop, Corpus Christi, Port Aransas, Rockport, Lulling, New Braunfels, Fredricksberg, San Antonio, Waco, and more.
And of course, we tried to do as much in Austin as we were able. The last Saturday night there we went and boogied at the Broken Spoke Dance Hall. Little Plate and felt like a real cowgirl :).
Packing Mayhem
Goodbye Austin!!!
The great state of Texas sent us off well with it’s wonderful springtime wild flower display along all the highways.
We enjoyed Texas shaped waffles at every complimentary breakfast while still in Texas 🙂
And we spent a day in Waco on our way out. We had fun at the Silos and Chip & Joanna’s Marketplace but what we loved even more was the little zoo they have there and the park next to it.
Word on the street is you have to try one of these famous cupcakes when in Waco. . . pretty yummy.
We were really impressed with the Waco Zoo
Mr. Plate didn’t love how much stuff we had to move. . .including our Betta Fish but he was a good sport.
And Onward through Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho!!!
The best non-chain motel we found.
Muddy Colorado!
We made it to the last 4 hours of our drive and a bearing went out. Luckily Mr. Plate is also Mr. Fix-It!
The trip from Texas to Idaho went really well overall. We waited to turn Little Plate’s seat from rear-facing to forward (which you can do when they are 2, but we waited awhile longer) for a few days before we left. It was the best decision. It was such a novelty that she seriously just kept saying, “This is fun! This is fun!” for days and days of driving. She’s such a good little traveler!
For the last month we have enjoyed our second spring this year in Idaho. Little Plate has enjoyed having her mama back from school, and the attention of so many extended family members. Mr. Plate had been making improvements on our little car and taking care of all the nitty gritty insurance/address change/finance details needing to be addressed in preparation to our summer in Canada. And I have been cooking a lot and trying to help out around my mom’s house where we have been transitioning. Oh and the grand tour of Idaho! We’ve been visiting as many as we can before heading further North.
Who says you can’t unload the moving truck in a princess dress? (All dresses are “princess dresses” to Little Plate right now)
