Mr. Plate and I have gotten a glimpse of the farming community in the area surrounding Hollanbec Farm. We’ve seen how Henk and Heather work together in a cooperative fashion with multiple farmers. Their CSA offers products from other farms to make for convenient one-stop whole foods organic shopping for their CSA members.
While helping at the organic farmer’s market in Ottawa I was able to meet some of the friends and farmers. I was amazed at all the different products that some of the ladies were offering. Little Plate absolutely fell in love with the Challah bread a friend made. Henk and Heather de-horned some goats for one neighbor and we were able to visit his farm.
We also went to an auction sale of a nearby farm and it felt like we were in a movie. We got there just as they were auctioning the entire house/property. It was sad and exciting at the same time. The current owner that was moving on was present and the auction drew a pretty big crowd. Henk and Heather were able to get a chopper to hopefully simplify feeding their animals.
