Tony and Linda have left a bit of a “cottage life” legacy as they both worked for the actual Cottage Life Network in Canada before retiring to become permaculture gurus and education center facilitators. Everywhere we have been around here we have found a picturesque lake, big or small, and adorable cottages around it. This makes for some seriously satisfying outdoor recreation; canoeing, swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking, beach-combing etc. We have been able to play on so many beaches already. Linda took all of the volunteers to a friends nearby cottage for the day. This particular cottage could be reached by foot but it was about a 50 minute walk and so we elected to reach it by canoe which was only about a 15 minute paddle. Very cool.
Linda packed us a lovely picnic lunch and we had a great afternoon swimming and canoeing. Mr. Plate, Little Plate, and I tried our legs at a peddle-boat. We smelled the fresh air and cooled down in the lake water. The only downer of the day was the very end when the black-flies came out for a feast. Poor Little Plate got about 20 bites on her neck before anyone even realized we were all getting chomped. They are such stealthy little devils.
Of course we ended the day at a local creamery for a delicious ice cream cone.
